Before you start

  • BI Connector is already installed on your machine. If not, go to the steps to install the Desktop Edition (in PC clients) or Server Edition (in Server clients). .
  • You have your BI Connector license key handy (sent to you via email after purchase).
  • Your machine has no internet access — if it does, use the online activation steps instead.
  • You have access to a second machine with internet access to complete part of this process.
Important — This process involves two machines: the machine on which BI Connector is installed (no internet), and a second machine with internet access. You will need to transfer a file between them — a USB drive, shared network folder, or any file transfer method works.

Part A — On the machine where BI Connector is installed

Step 1 — Launch BI Connector and open the offline activation screen

Open BI Connector from the Start Menu or the desktop shortcut. Enter your license key . Because this machine has no internet access, BI Connector will show you the offline activation screen.

Step 2 — Generate the offline activation request file

Click Generate Offline Activation File. You will be prompted to save a file named offlineActivationRequest. Save it to a location that is easy to find (e.g., your Desktop).

Step 3 — Copy the activation URL and note it down

Click Continue. On the next screen, copy the activation URL shown above the Continue button. You will need this URL on the internet-connected machine.

Tip — Transfer both the offlineActivationRequest file and the activation URL to the internet-connected machine before moving to Part B. A USB drive, shared network folder, or email to yourself all work.

Part B — On the machine with internet access

Step 4 — Open the activation URL in a browser

On the internet-connected machine, open a browser, paste the activation URL, and press Enter.

Step 5 — Upload the offline activation request file

On the page that appears, click Choose file. In the file selection window, navigate to the offlineActivationRequest file you transferred from the other machine, select it, and click Open.

Step 6 — Download the response file

Click Activate. A file named responseFile.dat will be downloaded automatically. Transfer this file back to the machine where BI Connector is installed.

Part C — Back on the machine where BI Connector is installed

Step 7 — Upload the response file to BI Connector

In BI Connector, click Continue to reach the response file upload screen. Click Upload & Verify Response File. In the file selection window, navigate to the responseFile.dat file, select it, and click Open.

Step 8 — Complete activation

Click Activate. If the response file is valid, a success message will appear confirming your license is now active.

Tip — Activation still not going through? Check the following:
  • Make sure the responseFile.dat file is the one downloaded in Step 6 and has not been renamed or modified.
  • Ensure you are uploading the response file in the same BI Connector session where you generated the request file — do not close and reopen BI Connector between Part A and Part C.
