Oracle Fusion Data in Tableau Cloud or Server: Set Up Automated Refresh for a Published Data Source

Once your Oracle Fusion data source is published from Tableau Desktop to Tableau Cloud or Server (using the steps here or here), you have to set up an automated refresh so the data stays current.

 

Before you start

  • BI Connector is installed and activated on your Tableau Bridge or Server. If not, complete the Server Edition Installation first and activate the lincense key.

  • A BI Connector Data Source is set up on the Tableau Bridge or Server, using the exact same configuration as the Windows machine you published from. If not, set it up first — Analysis/OTBI Reports or BI Publisher Data Models.

     

    Using a Tableau Bridge pool or Server with multiple nodes? Install and activate BI Connector on every node, with exactly the same BI Connector Data Source and Table configuration replicated on each.

    Reason - Tableau can route a refresh to any node at random, so all nodes must match to avoid random refresh failures.
  • The BI Connector Taco file is downloaded and placed in the correct location on the Tableau Bridge or Server.

     

    BI Connector is Tableau-certified — download its taco file from the official listing on Tableau Exchange. 

    Please note that after placing the taco file in the Bridge Server, the Bridge app in the node must be restarted. In the case of Tableau Server, the Tableau server node must be restarted. This is done to ensure the taco file gets recognized by the Bridge or Server nodes.

 

Steps

Step 1 — Log in to Tableau Cloud or Server

Log in to your Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server account.

 

Step 2 — Open your Published Data Source

In the left pane, click Explore. Open the project you published the Data Source to, then click the Published Data Source that has your Oracle Fusion data. You can also use the search box at the top right to find it quickly.

Step 3 — Save the Oracle Fusion password on the connection

In the box shown under the Connection tab, click the three dots at the bottom of the boxand click Edit Connection, enter your Oracle Fusion password in the password field, and click Save.

Step 4 — Create an extract refresh schedule

Click the Extract Refreshes tab, then click New Extract Refresh. Set the refresh schedule as required and click Create.

Step 5 — Test the refresh

To confirm the connection works without waiting for the scheduled time, click the three dots on the extract refresh you just created and click Run Now (confirm Run Now again).

 

Then click Jobs in the left pane and check that the extract job shows Completed. For large datasets, allow time for the refresh to finish before the Completed status appears.

Done! Your Oracle Fusion data source now refreshes automatically on the schedule you set, through BI Connector on your Tableau Bridge or Server.
