Before you start

Part A — Start a workbook from the Published Data Source

Step 1 — Log in to Tableau Cloud or Server

Log in to your Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server site in your browser.

Step 2 — Open the Published Data Source

In the left pane, click Explore and open the project, then click the Published Data Source you want. You can also use the search box at the top right to find it by name.

Step 3 — Create a new workbook

Click New Workbook (or click New > Workbook and select the data source). Web authoring opens in your browser, connected to the Published Data Source.

Part B — Build the report

Step 4 — Build your worksheets

Drag fields onto Columns and Rows, pick a visualization from Show Me, and refine the marks, filters, and formatting. Add calculated fields and filters as your analysis needs.

Note — A Published Data Source is governed centrally, so you cannot change its underlying model here. You can still add calculated fields, groups, sets, and filters in your workbook.

Part C — Build and publish the dashboard

Step 5 — Create the dashboard

Click New Dashboard. Drag your worksheets onto the canvas, then add titles, filters, and legends, and arrange the layout.

Step 6 — Save the workbook

Click File > Save, give the workbook a clear name, choose the Project, set permissions as needed, and save. The workbook is now published to Tableau Cloud or Server.

Done! Your report and dashboard are published to Tableau Cloud or Server for your team to view, and they stay current with the Published Data Source and its refresh schedule.
