How to configure Subject Area list ?

With BI Connector v4.2, a new feature for improving the performance is added to support the loading of selected list of Subject Area information.

This feature improves the BI Connector performance for users whose OBIEE setup has a large collection of Subject Area(and tables within it), by selectively loading the Subject Area/Table information configured per DSN connection.


Configuring the Subject Area list 


Step 1: The user Identifies the specific list of OBIEE Subject Areas that will be used for creating a report from within Tableau/ Power BI/ Qlik.


Step 2: Launch the 'ODBC Data Source Administrator' application.

Create/Add a new DSN (using BI Connector Driver) if needed or select a existing BI Connector DSN
Enter the OBIEE Server Name and authentication information.

Click on 'Test connection' to ensure the credentials are valid.


Step 3: Select Subject Areas option under Data Source Type.
Click on Manage Subject Area List link. 


Step 4: On clicking Manage Subject Area List link, Subject Area Configuration screen will be launched. 


Step 5: To add a Subject Area, Enter the Subject Area name in the text box.
Click on the Add icon to add the Subject Area to the configuration list.


Step 6: Click on Save button to save the list. Click on Cancel button to discard the changes.


Removing Subject Area entry from the configuration list


Step 1: Open the configured DSN that you are working with.


Step 2: Select the Subject Area from the list that you want to remove from the list.
Click on the Remove icon.


Step 3: To remove all the Subject Areas from the list, click on the Remove all icon.


Step 4: Click on Save button to save the changes that you made. Click on Cancel button to discard the changes.
