Before you start
- This is the legacy flow for backward-compatibility purposes and applicable to OAC, OAS and OBIEE users to refer for maintaining their existing pbix files.
All users are required to switch to new flow for creating new Power BI reports. The new flow is more reliable and gives a smooth report building experience. - The BI Connector is installed and activated on the same machine which has the Power BI Desktop installed. If not, start with BI Connector Desktop Edition installation and activate the license.
- A BI Connector Data Source and Table is already configured on the machine. If not, set it up first - Analysis Reports or Subject Areas.Are you a Fusion user looking to connect to BI Publisher Data Models? Its supported in the new flow.
- You are signed into your Power BI Service account inside your Power BI Desktop instance. If not, sign in now.
Steps
Step 1 — Open Power BI Desktop
Open Power BI Desktop on your PC.
Step 2 — Open the BI Connector connector
Click Blank Report. On the ribbon, click Get Data. If a drop-down appears, select More and search for BI Connector. If the Get Data window opens directly, search for BI Connector. Select BI Connector.
Step 3 — Enter your Data Source name
Enter the name of your BI Connector Data Source. The name is case-sensitive — copy it using the copy icon next to the Data Source name in the BI Connector app.
Step 4 — Enter credentials and connect
Enter your Oracle credentials, then click Connect.
Step 5 — Select the table
Expand the database and schema, select the table you want, and click Load.
Step 6 — Build your dashboard
Build your report and dashboard from the loaded data — drag fields onto the canvas, choose visuals, and format as needed.
Step 7 — Save and publish
Save the .pbix file, then click Publish and publish it to the Power BI Service.
Done! Your report is published to the Power BI Service. To keep the data current, set up scheduled refresh through your On-premises Data Gateway.
