I see an error "Couldn’t load the model schema" in Power BI when I open the existing workbook

When you open any saved Power BI workbook that is built using BI Connector and if you see the following error, don't worry, it is simple to fix.

It could be due to the following reasons:

1.  You have created and saved a Power BI workbook using a report (Analysis) in OBIEE (Ex: "/shared/Report1") and suppose that report was renamed or removed from your OBIEE server after saving the Power BI workbook. Now if that workbook is opened, OBIEE will search for the report with old name("/shared/Report1") and hence returns the above error as in the image. So, if you see this error, you need to verify if that report actually exists in your OBIEE server or not.

2. Another possible root cause for this error is if a new report is created in OBIEE and you are using 3.3 or older version of BI Connector but you haven’t preloaded the metadata in BI Connector after that. The newly created report doesn’t exist in your local BI Connector cache. So BI Connector consider that the report doesn’t exist in OBIEE and returns error. To resolve this error, you should click on “Preload Metadata” button in BI Connector.
