Following is a general tutorial for connecting from Qlik Sense Server to OBIEE Reports using BI Connector Server Edition.

Pre-requisites

Follow the Step-by-Step Installation Guide for BI Connector Server Edition to install and configure BI Connector on your PC.

Connecting from Qlik Sense Server to OBIEE Subject Areas

  • Launch Qlik Sense Server by hitting http://serverip/hub
  • Click on "Create new app" to create your first app.

  • Enter your App name and click "Create".

  • After successfully creating the Qlik app, click on the "Open App" button.

There are two ways by which you can load your OBIEE RPD tables and join them to create visualizations out of it.

  1. Using UI
  2. Using Script Editor

Loading Tables and Joining them using UI

  • Select "Add data from files and other sources" option to connect to the data source.

  • Click on "ODBC" button from the list of available data sources.

  • Select the OBIEE DSN that you configured using BI Connector in ODBC Data Source Administrator UI and enter your username and password and click on "Create" button.

  • You are now connected to OBIEE Subject Area. Click on the "Database" drop-down list to connect to the required database.

  • Click on "Owner" drop down to view the list of Subject Area. Select a subject area of your interest from the list.

  • From the "Tables" list box, select the tables of your interest from the list. The list of columns will be displayed just like a Table, from which you can select the necessary columns and click on "Add data".
  • Make sure to uncheck the GZID column for the selected tables.

Note: Preview of table data is disabled on considering the performance.

  • Perform actions like Joining on Data Manager and Click "Load data".

Loading Tables and Joining them using Script Editor

  • Select "Script Editor" option to connect to the data source.

  • Script Editor for your app will be opened. Click on "Create new connection" button in the top right corner.

  • Click on "ODBC" button from the list of available data sources.

  • Select the OBIEE DSN that you configured using BI Connector in ODBC Data Source Administrator UI and enter your username and password and click on "Create" button.

  • You are now connected to OBIEE Subject Area. Now, add the join script for the tables in the Script Editor. You can join the tables based on a common column in the tables or you can make use of the BI Connector generated column "GZID" in all the tables. Then click on "Load Data" in the top right corner.

Creating Visualizations

  • You will see the list of charts from which you can select any one chart ( ex: Pie chart)

  • Select "Add dimension" to add a dimension column of the table to the chart.
  • Select "Add measures" to add a measure column from the table to the chart.

  • Congratulations! You have now successfully created your first Qlik Sense Visualization for your OBIEE data. Click on done to complete the process.
