BI Connector's Preload Metadata feature from version 3.0 to 3.3 helps to minimize the waiting time for loading OBIEE SubjectArea / Reports in both Tableau and Power BI.
Preload Metadata
Preload Metadata button in BI Connector UI is used to load the OBIEE Subject Area / Reports list in cache for faster access.
Step 1: Open ODBC Administrator and select the DSN configured for to use BI Connector.
Step 2: Click Preload Metadata button individually for OBIEE Subject Areas and Reports to load all the OBIEE Subject Areas and Reports list into cache respectively.
a) To Preload Subject Areas, select Subject Area radio button in Data Source Type and click Preload Metadata button.
b) To Preload Reports, select Report radio button in Data Source Type and click Preload Metadata button.
Step 3: Once the loading is completed, the time information at which the recent loading into cache happened will be displayed below the Preload button. Now click Ok to save the DSN.
This option is used to populate the data under schema when you wok in Tableau or PowerBI. Also, using Filter option will help in still more faster access.
Note:
- If you update the Subject Area / Report in OBIEE, you need to follow the above steps again from Step 1 to update cache.
- Filter text doesn't apply for preloading metadata. Despite of filter text, all the data source list will be loaded in cache.
